What do you love about boxing? How did you get into training? What are you fighting for?

I have always been fascinated and obsessed with the sport. I remember always staying up on Friday night to watch ESPN Friday Night Fights and rushing home from school to go on YouTube to watch fights the rest of the evening. I really started training around eleven years old after some kids robbed me and beat me up walking to the park one summer. My mother sent me to the Parks Recreation Center Lost Battalion Hall in Queens where I met Steve Maiorano and Tony Paolillo. They had me stepping forward and back with only a jab for about a month and I was instantly hooked and addicted to the sport even more. A year later I won a Junior Olympic Championship, and just kept going from there. I love everything boxing. The training, the fight, the people I get to meet and be involved with, teaching and sharing the knowledge I’ve learned over the years from mentors and coaches I’ve been fortunate to work with.
What am I fighting for? I’m fighting for people to realize their full potential. No matter what their passion or goal in this life is, when that time comes where you find out what it is, everything you do must be to stay on course to achieve your end goal. Whatever your goal is, you need to believe in it with every ounce of yourself. It will be difficult and you will feel lonely at times trying to achieve it, but think about how great it will feel when you’re sitting on top of the mountain!

Describe your style of teaching.

I like to focus more on technique. If you’re going to learn something, learn it right. If you’re going to do something, do it right. There is less chance of injury, you won’t look like an idiot throwing sloppy punches, and when you go somewhere else, I wouldn’t have to worry about you telling somebody I taught you.
